For me, it has to be PSP, it was WAY ahead of its time.

Also remember that I added windows 95 in it to see the capabilities and it was taking 10 minutes just to boot into windows hahaha

I broke it when I got drunk one day though, still miss it :(

Gameboy Advance SP. So many fond memories of playing Mario pinball land on road trips and spending a majority of my time in Sonic Advance 2 in the chao garden :3

I played so much Mario Kart on my SP. The backlight was such a game changer for me.

Glad to see many enjoyers of the GBA SP too. I played endless hours of Pokémon Sapphire and Emerald on that thing at home, while visiting family, on long trips to catechism (fuck LA). So many fond memories!

i loved playing pokemon pinball on gameboy, it was so much fun trying to catch them all!

SP with the NES color scheme for sure.

Gameboy Color or GBA-SP for sure.
"Finishing" Pokemon Crystal and seeing an entire other REGION still to go was the most insane videogame moment ever to me that still hasn't been topped.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

OH MY GOD! this has been my favorite gaming moment ever. finishing the game and then just casually swimming on the right side and seeing THE FIRST GAME'S WHOLE REGION blew my mind, it will always be my favorite

Me and my brothers had game gears growing up, those things chewed through some batteries, but had some darn good sonic games on them

Game gear for me as well. When your a kid, your favorite console is whichever one you were lucky enough to own, be it a gift from a parent, or one you bought with chore money from a friend.

I loved my Game Gear. I always had the AC adapter, so I didn't actually burn through many batteries (never played in the car because the motion gave me a headache). Although I eventually had quite a few games, the ones that I played the most were Sonic 2, Mortal Kombat, and Spider-man/X-Men Arcades Revenge.

Nostalgia alone will probably always keep the Game Gear my favorite handheld, despite how awesome all the Gameboys, DSs, and PSP things that get made. That said, the Neo Geo Pocket holds a high place in my heart as well.

game gear design looks ahead of its time definitely, but yeah i heard that it needed so many batteries! im so glad i bought rechargables for my gameboy

Yeah I had a game gear, and I think of the portables I've had, I got the most use out of it. Part of that use was three younger cousins on my mom's side. Every time we visited I brought it along so I could play it while riding in the RV (ac adapter the whole way)...and when we got there I let them play with it between the 3 of them. I eventually sold it to them with all the game cartridges and the case I had.

Nintendo DS Lite as it had a slot for DS and GBA games.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

Without a doubt Nintendo DS.

SEGA/PlayStation kid. Never liked Nintendo first parties but man, the library on DS is amazing even if you exclude all the Marios and Zeldas and whatnot.

I also had a PSP 1000 and later I did chores to save for a PSP GO and then a VITA, but even after CFWing all of them, 8/10 times I’d pick up my DSi over the other handhelds. To this date I still sleep with my DSi and New 3DS XL next to my bed.

For me it was the Game Gear, I had so much fun playing that. Although I did have to fashion my own external battery pack for it.

As much as I loved my Psp during my college era with it's local multi-player games, favorite is hands down the DS. So many good games and a lot of jrpg in an era where it was no longer the triple A of games

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

never had a DS, interested in getting one, one day.

“Grew up” with the game gear which got a ton of use.

But the PSP was amazing in college for passing time between classes. What a device ahead of its time.

Total missed opportunity on Switch special editions.

I grew up in the 1980s and I loved my original brick Game Boy. I have all the accessories like the lense and the front light etc. My parents wouldn't let me play video games on the TV so I never got a SNES or Mega Drive etc. Later I got the original psx on my own but that was in 1997 or 1998 when Final Fantasy 8 was released in Europe.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

It's hard to imagine now, but the original Game Boy blew my mind because it used cartridges. I don't know of an earlier handheld that had interchangeable games.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

psx is amazing!

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

Definitely PSP for me. I used to spend so much time listening to music with the audio visualizer app

i loved that i could play gbc games on my normal gb, i played so much pokemon crystal

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Growing up it was my OG Gameboy. I played it daily for years and still remember getting it on Christmas the year it came out. However, I was already an adult when I got my Gameboy Advance, which still holds a place in my heart as my favorite handheld. Minish Cap was a banger!

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

that was my first handheld, we had some pirated cartridges that had 99 games in (10 really though) and they were so much fun!

later i had a PSP, a Vita (which imo was an incredible machine) DS and 3DS, but growing up it was the Brick GB

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

that was our first handheld, it was so cool being able to play games on the go, but having to have attachments so you can see better or play better was a mess haha imagine not having a light on your screen now, it was painful!

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

i had a magnifier with build in lights, made the whole system so heavy, but even without the GB screen did hit the sweetspot for size

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

i think we had the same thing too, i definitely remember the magnifier part!

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

I mean, I've always said that masturbation and my Game Boy were the two high points of my adolescence...

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Gameboy advance was my favorite as a kid. I remember I actually got grounded right at I got but at night I would take it out of the box play it and then put it back. I remember having to act so excited to play games I had been play for day already when I became ungrounded.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Game gear, I loved that thing. Sonic games, the Itchy and Scratchy game, and I also remember a creepy vampire game too that I would play late at night and it would scare me so much.
I also have some memories of a Spiderman game that was my brother's.

I still have my green Gameboy and some games, and that was awesome too. I just wish I still had my Game Gear.
