Dear Coyotes and Colleagues,

The Board of Trustees of the California State University System announced earlier today the name of the new CSU Chancellor, Dr. Mildred García. She will be the system’s 11th chancellor and the first Latina to serve in this position.

On behalf of Cal State San Bernardino, I would like to extend my congratulations to incoming Chancellor García and to welcome her back home to California and the CSU.

I know incoming Chancellor García well from her years as president at both Cal State Fullerton and Dominguez Hills, as well as in her current role as president of the American Association of State Colleges and Universities. She has always been an outstanding colleague, knows the CSU and its students intimately, and has a deep commitment to the CSU’s mission in our state of California.

I look forward to working with incoming Chancellor García, once she assumes office on October 1, 2023, to repair and rectify the many issues that have been identified these past few years; to address the long-standing issues of funding and the continued strengthening of diversity, equity and inclusion throughout the system; and to assist her in making the CSU everything that it might and needs to be.

My thanks to Interim Chancellor Dr. Jolene Koester for her leadership and service to the CSU through these extremely challenging months.

Tomás D. Morales President
