Welcome to Freecad; where you'll be making up pointless workarounds like this constantly because the workflow is nonexistant.
FreeCAD
Your own 3D parametric modeler.
FreeCAD is an open-source parametric 3D modeler made primarily to design real-life objects of any size. Parametric modeling allows you to easily modify your design by going back into your model history and changing its parameters.
Well shit. π₯²
Yeah, I want it to be better too. I want FreeCAD to be the Blender of parametric modeling; but after 20 years, it's just not there yet.
I am actually very optimistic about ondsel and I hope there will be more money and coordinated work put in this software. I suspect freecad to be a lot more usable in 2 years if ondsel continues to grow and improve :)
thantik had previously mentioned using a cad plugin in blender if wanna go that route https://youtu.be/1jNDLUDL0gc?si=rHwt4UQ_2p6mnvGl
A relevant comment I had saved
Thanks for the tip, never heard of Ondsel, but will check it out tomorrow!
Ondsel doesnβt fully implement the RT toponaming fix, but their employees (generally hired from the existing volunteer devs) are among those pushing to get it into Mainline FreeCAD, as Ondsel is barely a fork for now and very heavily reliant on the 0.22 beta.
Also, for your specific question, I think the main FreeCAD forum is still your best bet for a practical answer.
