Wednesday, March 6, 2024: Witchcraft Wednesday

The Koraat is great! I should use it more often – though I thought it needed refreshing on the stones, but it is way sharper than the Soviet Raketa razor.

Fatigue! Have a good night!

    2 passes. Face lather. Excellent shave.

I'm joining @djundjila and @whosgotthepudding in a Black Watch Wedgeday. Pretty glorious I must say. I have the Black Watch trifecta but chose to follow @djundjila's curation of BW soap, Opulence aftershave, and Cerberus fragrance. I really enjoyed this olfactory journey so kudos to DJ.

Today's use of the Wade & Butcher wedge was a test shave. As noted above, the result was excellent. This razor has not been refreshed in two years and I thought that one was due. I intended to use a coticule→Black Arkansas stone progression, but I found that the coticule was cutting too slowly. Rather than use more pressure and more time on the coticule, I chose to move to synthetic stones and do a synthetic→Black Arkansas progression. I've not done this before but have been told by some very experienced sharpeners that the Black Ark adds a special finish. This seems to be true based upon today's shave.

Anyway, I made a video of honing this razor. I'm tagging u/Marquis90 because I discuss honing a smiling razor in the video and he asked me about that.

Black Watch → Opulence → Cerberus ++;

This reminds me that it's been a while since I used my Fine India Steel. Very smooth feeling razor!

Black Wedge

  • Brush: Dogclaration LG 2022 Mystery Brush (B16)
  • Razor: Union Cutlery Spike (5/8", wedge, square point, carbon steel)
  • Lather: Spearhead Shaving Company Seaforth! — Black Watch
  • Aftershave: Declaration Grooming — Opulence
  • Fragrance: House of Mammoth/Noble Otter/Declaration Grooming Cerberus

Ok, first, the elephant in the room: yesterday's Tabassacre was a crime, my disappointment is immeasurable, my day is ruined, and my heart broken. I never thought Kai the otter and his acolytes capable of such mob violence and I'll never look at his cute wittwe face the same way again.

It's Black Wedge Wedgeday and to celebrate, I brought out the 1991 beige Opel Corsa of straight razor design, my beloved little spike. It's exactly as to-the-point and no-nonsense as the design suggests. It's fun to use in a non-luxurious way. Like a favourite small kitchen knife, the one that cuts through the tomato skin effortlessly. Additionally, because of the thick blade cross section, it's much stiffer then hollow ground of similar size and has a more direct feedback. Like a hard 2H pencil vs a B.

Black Watch is a scent I can't tire of.

March 6, 2024

  • Brush: Stirling 24mm Synthetic
  • Blade: Cien Men 2-Blade Cart (7)
  • Lather: Central Texas Soaps - Down By The River - Soap
  • Post Shave: Spearhead - Seaforth! Heather - Toner
  • Post Shave: Goodfellow & Co. - Face Lotion - Kelp & Sea Mineral

Nice travel shave. Couldn't use the #MMarch24 tag today, but I'll at least get one entry by the end of the month!

Mar 6, 2024 - Kraken

  • Brush: Maritime Brush Co Box Puffer 24mm M5C Knot
  • Razor: EldrormR Industries MM24 #MMarch24
  • Blade: Personna GEM PTFE [6]
  • Lather: Mickey Lee Soapworks - The Kraken - Soap
  • Post Shave: Moon Soaps - Bixby - Splash
  • Fragrance: House of Mammoth - Dammusi - Eau de Parfum

The aquatic Kraken, from the once active MLS, was a nice change of pace this morning. The new-to-me Bixby paired well enough and left me very impressed with it's scent profile.

Rating: 4/5

Kraken ++;

That two-tone MM24 looks so good in pictures, it's ridiculous!

It has patinated nicely, but I think I'm just getting lucky with the lighting that it stands out so well.
