Three months since using the pixel 6a. I got it because it was the cheapest flagship quality phone I could get. Software wise. Though the camera is good as well.

I find the voice typing real smooth. I also found good use of the recorder app while watching video lectures.

Over all, not a single bug or problem while using it and it runs smooth, without bloatware.

I had a galaxy s9 before this and was daily driving it with the pixel AOSP.

The moment I moved to pixel AOSP on it, I know this is the thing. So I got a one month old Pixel 6a for like 200 USD in the market and didn't think for another second.

This is the closest experience to windows phone I had.

This is just a beginner's post as I get into lemmy.

It would take something truly revolutionary to move me away from the Pixel. I had the original Pixel and after that went through a couple different non-Pixel phones and the whole time I hated the experience. Google's extra features that you get with Pixels have become essential to me.

I've had the Pixel 5 for almost 3 years now, I just replaced the battery in it and I plan on keeping this phone for at least another couple years. It has everything I need on the hardware front, and is still getting new features and updates.

Yeah! Most of the features surround calling and camera. Call screening and the Direct My Call features are excellent, the former has the caller state who they are and what they're calling about which you can see visually on your phone screen while the call is still ringing. I generally don't answer calls from unrecognized numbers so it can be helpful to see if a call is actually important. Direct My Call is will visually show you what's happening when you're navigating a call menu (press 1 for x, press 2 for y, etc) it will list out the options so you can read them which is really helpful.

For camera all photos are taken as motion photos and it will automatically select what it thinks is the best photo of the bunch, but gives you the option to tweak which frame. Recently they released something where you can have it erase people or objects in the background of your photos.

That's just a few examples, but there are a lot of great features that are Pixel specific that I really love. Android Authority also has this article which explains it more in depth: https://www.androidauthority.com/best-pixel-features-explained-3217987/

I'm typing this on a Pixel 3, I don't even remember how many years I've had it now. I'm nearing readiness for an upgrade and looking at the 6 or 7

The pixel 7 won Marquis Brownlee's Smartphone Awards 2022. It convinced me to upgrade, and I definitely don't regret it.

I just bought a OnePlus Nord N200 and flashed LineageOS w/o gapps and am setting it all up now. Stock OxygenOS was lagging but Lineage is flying. I am running LineageOS 20 based on Android 13

The only annoyance I have is that after 2-3 updates with the update notes saying they have fixed adaptive charging to not just work at night it still won't do adaptive charging during the day.

I work night shift so my normal sleep schedule is 3pm-10pm except during the weekend, adaptive charging only happens on Friday and Saturday when I plug it in overnight.

We should be able to set a window of time for adaptive charging to be available.

I moved the opposite direction. Pixel 3 XLkept giving me weird glitches. So I finally switched to a galaxy s22 ultra. I'm glad to be back with Samsung.

I have a Pixel 7a which I bought 2 months ago at launch date. It's the first Android phone that I really love, the others (Samsung, Sony and Asus) were just "meh, at least it does its job right".

This one is different, the build feels obviously premium, the hardware and the software work exceptionally well together, and Android updates are frequent and having Google give you the guarantee that (at the minimum) security updates will continue until 2028 is awesome and helps fight electronic waste. And even after that, Android OSes like LineageOS or GrapheneOS (see https://lemmy.world/post/1172888) are very likely to continue working smoothly if one wants to switch to an OS that is still maintained, given that Google's devs test stock opensource Android on the Pixel phones first. I'm sure I won't buy a new phone for the next few years.

Only thing making me sad is that I dropped it on concrete a few days ago and didn't have a case (I'm usually very careful and never needed a case, this time it just slipped out of my pocket), nothing bad happened to the phone, which I find awesome, but it got a few very small scratches on the side which aren't really visible but I now always get a bit sad when I touch them 😔. That's how much I love this phone!

I'll never understand how someone can keep a phone without a case. Even if you're careful there's still a chance of dropping it. I can't tell you how many times my UAG case has saved my phones. I'm still on the same Galaxy S9 phone I've had for six YEARS (yes, I know it's time to upgrade but my phone just won't die lol)

Yes I know but I feel like cases are just bad design. You buy a shiny phone that's being advertised as having premium materials, being great to the touch and thin, only to later slap an ugly case on it to protect it. I know there are very strong arguments in favor of phone cases, but I could just never reconcile myself with how phone cases negate a phone's design 😅

Lol fair enough there are some absolutely beautiful phones these days (I love the newer pixel design with the cameras horizontally along the aluminum back bezel), but I am a practical person and I prefer longevity over aesthetics. I'm a #buyitforlife type person which is probably why I'm still happy with my old phone - it's not in perfect shape with a shattered glass back panel hidden behind a UAG case, but the phone just keeps chugging along so I can't justify buying a new one (aside from the fact that the camera is feeling a bit dated these days and I could use a mildly better one for my business needs)

To each is own if you're willing to take that risk, more power to ya!

Have thought about moving from Galaxy to Pixel lately...

I'm still fine with my S10 but it's starting to feel the years. I imagine it's got another 12-18 months left, but my upgrade chain has been S2➡️S6➡️S10, and the 6 to 10 jump was so unimpressive.

I'd kinda had my eye on the S22, since my typical pattern is just to get the tippity top flagship every few years and use it as long as it lasts, but ALL of the S20+'s all seem so similarly uninspired that I'm not exactly chomping at the bit. Not to mention the price tag...

Sure, back in the day the Galaxy S2 and android in general were the pioneers at the forefront, and those days are long behind us now, it's true, but the pattern is established. Sigh, I dunno.

Yeah I have a Galaxy S9 I got in 2018 and it's still going strong (enough). I've thought about an upgrade but I'm really just waiting for my S9 to die hahaha.

I've had galaxy phones since the original Samsung Galaxy, but I think it's time to move on to another brand. I am seriously considering a pixel for my next phone

My 6a crashes all the time. My 4a died after getting very briefly wet. I had flip phones that could handle being fully submersed.

I'll definitely be switching to something else whenever I get sick of this crashing piece of junk.
