Went with the Arctic P12 Max because they are incredible for their price. Went with the white version because it has better bearings making it even more quite. Didnt care how it looked but it actually doesnt look bad at all imo

Edit: Got a reply from Arctic on Twitter. Apparently the new revision of the black P12 Max also use a fluid dynamic bearing (the better one). If you want to go with the black ones, always check the description I guess

Edit: Here are some videos of the before and after. My phone doesnt record noise well so I had to boost the audio by 30db. Even still its a bit hard to judge how much of a difference it makes. Btw I didnt make any changes to the fan curve (yet). Idle temp went down about 10°C (probably also because the new fans dont completely stop spinning even on 0% for some reason. But you cant hear them at all so idc)

This is the first non repost in this community I have seen since I joined. Nice, and nice work on the fans!

I was actually surprised how little is going on in this sub considering the 13.7k subscribers. And thanks!

Anyone know what I can do with the old fans and shroud haha

[–] [email protected] 4 points 9 months ago

Some sort of bucket-bong enhancement, if you smoke weed and miss the nineties...

This is a great idea. I have only arctic case fans and now my gpu is as well the only audible source of noise inside my system.

Did you have to change the cables/plugs of the fans or did you get an adapter of some kind?

[–] Vrtrx 4 points 9 months ago

I got a GPU fan to normal pwm case fan adapter. There are a lot on amazon but I cant guarantee their quality. I ordered 2 adapters from EK Water Blocks on caseking. With 4,90€ per adapter they might be more expensive than some options on Amazon but with EK Water Blocks I know I have an adapter from a reputable brand

I‘m not incredibly sure this is the exact card my wife has but she has a 20?0 SUPER as well and the fans are insanely loud. Especially when under strong load they go full bore and then pause in between. Drives me nuts. What was your reason to replaces them?

[–] Vrtrx 2 points 9 months ago (1 children)

The noise. I use open back headphones and even though its possible to ignore the noise when you have in-game sounds, it still bothered me whenever there was a quite scene, or I didnt use my headphones and I just didnt like my room to sound like a jet engine in general. So yeah the noise is why I replaced them

Thanks for elaborating. Good luck with your build. :)

I never considered you van just buy some random fans and zip tie em to the heat sink. Notice anything different thermal performance wise?

Idle temps are down about 10°C (probably also because the new fans dont completely stop spinning even on 0% for some reason. But you cant hear them at all so idc). In Furmark temp is down 4°C while being inaudible now. Keep in mind I havent changed the fan curve at all and it was tuned to be as quite as possible with the OG fans. Resulted in higher temps in the past but I just wanted to keep those OG fans as low spinning as possible because they were really loud at higher rpm. Oh and this mod is a rather common one. Usually with noctua fans though, which is why its called a noctua fan mod. But Arctic is way less expensive and their P12 Max fans are incredibly impressive

Edit: In games in might be an even bigger improvement temp wise. Noise wise its like night and day. I cant even hear the GPU fans anymore. I can hear the coil wine better than my fans now lol

Next project!

Keep in mind you'll have a hard time selling this. People don't like DIY cards. Keep the original fans and slap them back on when it's time to sell.

[–] Vrtrx 1 points 9 months ago

Thought about that too. Honestly the improvement is 100% worth it anyway but I'll keep the original fans and shroud so I can swap them if I ever sell the card

How are the bearings better in the white version?

Honestly I have not read much about the new max fans, I have a ton of 10+ year old p/f12s I would like to replace though.

[–] Vrtrx 4 points 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago) (1 children)

The max fans are great. The black one has been out for a while now with a lot of positive reviews but it uses ball bearings which have a tendency to be a bit louder (it's still incredible given its price. See reviews) The white one was just recently released and Arctic gave it an upgrade with a fluid dynamic bearing, further reducing the noise during low rpm

[–] Betty_Boopie 2 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Thanks for the info, I probably would have never even looked at the white version otherwise.

These are a much needed replacement for the clicking fans in my nas lol

[–] Vrtrx 2 points 9 months ago

Just got a reply from Arctic via Twitter and they said that the new revision of the black P12 max also use a fluid dynamic bearing. Idk how to make sure you get the new revision though

Curious which orientation you used. Do the fans pull air on to the card, or push it off the card?

[–] Vrtrx 1 points 9 months ago

The push the air on the card, like normal GPU fans also do

Nice! I think that's what I'm gonna do next when I'm about to clean my PC.

Would you mind sharing the adapter you used?

[–] Vrtrx 2 points 9 months ago

I bought 2 adapters from EK Water Block on caseking. Might be a bit more expensive then some options on amazon but with EK I know I have a product from a reputable brand.
