Looks good. I like it.
If we’re doing homages to other Mastodon apps, the mouse logo frozen in an ice cube would be a good throw back to the Ice Cubes client.

Use as much foss as you can with the hardware you got. Gotta try at least.
That’s fair but sometimes, folks will make a sacrifice in FOSS for improved usage or supporting an entity you think does good work.
