I just finished the process of adding 8 new Seagate Exos 20TB drives to my TrueNAS core system. This question has been asked a lot and it's known seagate drives are loader then most durring operation. Though i could not find anything related to a consistent "shudder" through all my new Exos drives. I have attached a audio clip in the link below. Have any of you come across this specific sound before.

The drives are in a Fractal Design 7 XL case with rubber bumpers in all trays. The case hold 9 WD Red's 12TB, and 8 Segate Exos 20TB. All 17 drives are connected to a SAS 9305-24i in IT mode. Running TrueNAS Core 13.0-U5.3

Sounds pretty normal to me - if I had to guess, it’s just the heads moving back and forth very quickly periodically on one or more of the drives. Personally, I’d run them for a few days or weeks before you put anything important on them (but still use them) to make sure nothing is out of the ordinary. If it’s a hardware-related issue, they’ll likely drop out pretty quickly - and then you can warranty them. But those drives are factory-tested for multiple months before they make it into your hands.

As an update, the sound and drive health was "normal". Though I did manage to dampen the sounds substantial.

To do this I installed rubber pads/stickers where the fractal design HDD trays touch the case. I used three pads per tray at three contact points two going through screw holes. I also added a rubber yoga mat (cut to size) under my case 6m thick.

The yoga mat was cheaper to buy than anything similar in size that I was looking for :)

Here is a link to the rubber pads/stickers. Really good find.
