Y'all are nuts! It hasn't even been a week since I raised the call for fundraising and we already have it done!

A pirate chest full of doubloons A pirate chest full of doubloons A pirate chest full of doubloons

It was sitting at 99% all morning, so I kept refreshing every 10 minutes to post this!

Great success!

As promised, I plan to send the overflow to lemmy development once I open the next goal. I'll let you all know!

I really hope the growth will be large enough to require another call for funding! Grats!

This pays the server bill for this site, and any excess is donated to the Lemmy developers as far as i'm aware

[–] [email protected] 11 points 1 year ago (2 children)

To be exact, server infra and a bit of buffer for unexpected costs or scaling

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Smart. Far too many forums of old failed to keep a buffer and ended up dying when a temporary cost explosion happened. Thank you for your work o7

I've been sailing these choppy waters for a while. I know that funding takes time to ramp up. If you decide to ask for funding once the costs start eating into it, it's too late.

Thanks for the clarification!

Congrats ! One way to incentives donation would be an award system like on reddit between instances and maybe custom emojis like on discord/youtube to be used inside the community.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 year ago (2 children)

We already have custom emotes! I used some in the OP.

You mean the gold chests and the pirate ? They're show as pictures (take the whole screen width and on top of each other) in liftoff. Will try on the other apps and report.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago

Ye the lemmy ui actually keeps them small, but liftoff blows them up

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I tried on wefwef, control and jerboa. In All of them, the emotes are way too big (consided as pictures ) in jerboa they're small enough for the gold chests to appear next to each others but still way bigger than an emoji (if it's the supposed size). So it must be a phone thing. How are they supposed to look ?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (2 children)

Here's a desktop screenshot. I'll try to upload smaller versions

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

I saw the issue you raised for this, good job

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Thanks. Jerboa almost got it right but still a bit too big . I will probably fill an issue on each of their GH repos tomorrow . Can I use your image for reference ? If anyone reading this can do it, please do. If we want the lemmy apps to improve we need to help the devs by telling them about bugs. They're users like you and me and they'd be happy to fix the bugs if it means a better experience for the user.

ye go for it.
