Honestly it's worth subscribing to Historic Scotland.

I went to Urquhart Castle (the day the first lockdown was announced), and it was going to be about thirty-odd quid for two adults and a child to visit...

...or, it was going to be seven quid per month for the family, starting then.

Edinburgh Castle is a great attraction but it's an absolute ripoff to go on an isolated occasion, if you sign up then you'll make your money back for the year almost instantly if you go as a family.

I've found that Historic Scotland staffed sites are absolutely beautiful too, the grass is manicured almost perfectly and the facilities are clean and brilliant.

Big fan. That, and the Historic Scotland-comissioned gin from Edinburgh Gins is perhaps the best I've ever had, if a little expensive.

This is great! I always wanted to go see Edinburgh Castle but it's sooo expensive! I'm totally getting a membership!

Prices have gone up by a bawhair since I joined, and it's £8pm by direct debit.

Two adults and two 7+ children just for Edinburgh Castle for one visit works out to be a shade over fifty quid.

There's reciprocal arrangements with CADW in Wales and the equivalent in England, and you only end up paying an admin fee to enter their attractions too. I went to Chepstow Castle and I think it was about a quid for everyone.

Absolute no brainer! Even if you are not using it every month, supporting the preservation of these places is worth it!
