Why does Mastodon censor people worse than Twitter over hurt feelings? It seems multiple servers or instances prefer to ban account for using a bad word, rather than be an adult and let each person decide if they want to engage or not. Even going so far as ban an entire instance from other servers for not being nice.

Twitter users can block someone to not seem them anymore but accounts are not auto deleted because they used a word on a auto ban naughty list.

I personally condemn insulting other people, but in the real world when someone goes outside, nothing can be done about getting mocked or insulted and people have to continue on with their lives. How are people so scared of words and always run away rather than have the confidence to stand up for themself and punch a bully?

Mastodon will continue to stay wholly irrelevant and pointless until people can handle bad words and insults is unavoidable part of everyday life, unless their too scared to ever go outside again and are even scared to read certain words on a screen.

Thing is that instances can decide their own rules. Find and instance that allows bad words and you will have no problem there.

I agree with this on premise.

I think mastodon deciding to block truth social and gab or something like that when they were using activitypub AKA mastodon stack was stupid. The reason I say that is because you're making the choice on these large mega servers for every user, effectively nerfing the whole point of the decentralized tech.

I understand that the user base or content could be explicitly negative, but that should be up to the user unless it's found to be a bot. Freedom of speech isn't really there unless you let both sides talk and allow each person a choice to consume or block it.

Good. Community curation is a good thing.

Insults are perfectly avoidable if we all agree they aren't tolerated.

It isn't people who don't want to be insulted that are the problem but you wanting to throw insults is the problem.

Insults are unnecessary and non vital to any mature communication.

What part of what I said did you take to mean that I want insults?

Are suggesting there should be conformity without divergance?

This will depend on your instance. I'm on a Plerorma instance called FreeSpeechExtremist and have next to zero censorship. Picking an instance that alligns with your values is key. One downside is many instances block instances that allow more freedom of speech but it's worth it in my books.
