I was in a discussion on reddit where someone suggested using unranked 60/60 mods so they don't reduce the chance of applying slash too much but can still apply viral. I tried posting this on reddit but their website is shit, wouldn't let me post on mobile, and I'm not downloading their app.

50% slash damage on the weapon with 30% chance of status effects = 15% chance of slash being applied.

If you add 1 60/60 mod then you have 31.25% slash damage on the weapon with a 48% chance of status effects = 15% chance of slash status being applied.

Please don't put unranked 60/60 mods on your weapons because you think it will reduce the chance of slash.

Unranked dualstat mods pull ahead once you also get status chance bonuses from other mods, like the galvanized status chance mods or slash status mods like Carnis Stinger. Sharing a few builds with a Vasto Prime (77 slash damage, 33 non-slash damage, 22% status chance):

## Galvanized Shot + 2 dualstat mods
Total damage: 242
Slash: 77 (31.8182%)
Status Chance: 66%
Slash Proc Chance: 21%

## Galvanized Shot + 2 unranked dualstat mods
Total damage: 143
Slash: 77 (53.8462%)
Status Chance: 46.2%
Slash Proc Chance: 24.88%

## Galvanized Shot + 2 dualstat mods + Carnis Stinger
Total damage: 311.3
Slash: 146.3 (46.9965%)
Status Chance: 79.2%
Slash Proc Chance: 37.22%

## Galvanized Shot + 2 unranked dualstat mods + Carnis Stinger
Total damage: 212.3
Slash: 146.3 (68.9119%)
Status Chance: 59.4%
Slash Proc Chance: 40.93%

As you can see, unranked dualstat mods do increase the chance to proc slash on a shot. Whether this is worth the loss in raw damage will depend on additional variables like enemy defenses.

Fair enough. Using your examples though I would still strongly recommend ranked 60/60 mods since in your example you lose 3.71% slash status chance for an additional 19.8% chance of applying whatever status the 60/60 mods combine into.

Edit: my math based on your math might be off. I'm still waking up but I think it's close enough to get my point across

Edit 2: the loss of 3.71% slash chance is definitely worth it for the higher status chance if you have galvanized shot equipped.

You mean 31.25%? 0.3125% would make it a 0.15% chance

Fixed, thanks.

Well the elemental stat will skew the distribution more away from slash the higher the status chance is before the dual stat mod is thrown in

If you repeat the calculation with another dual stat or the 80% aptitude mod (or weeping wounds for melee) already on it you'll get a lot different results

The Overframe site or whatever it was called is pretty good for checking out different mod combos. Not sure if it's anywhere close to 100% accurate with how much weird spaghetti nonsense warframe mechanics have, but better than nothing.

Using the example I gave but for 2 60/60 mods.

You now have 22.727% of the damage being slash multiplied by the 66% total status chance which results in 15% of your attacks applying slash. The same amount as if you had 1 60/60 mod equipped.

I'm deliberately avoiding interactions with other mods in this post because of the weird spaghetti nonsense. I only wanted to dispel the idea that using unranked 60/60 mods is better than using ranked 60/60 mods.
