This is a personal collection of things I find around the internet.

Alright, so somehow you found this place. Here's what to expect:

Due to the nature of this place, you may find a bunch of stuff that you don't care about, but you may also find a new passion.

So, the gist is, this is a place where I'll share random things, and you'll discover the internet with me.

Oh yeah, I didn't advertise this place anywhere, so hey, how did you even get here?

Check out the sister sub where you discover music with me! [email protected]

Server admins with physical access to the database, can view the contents of said database. I am beyond SHOCKED!

Thanks for reposting this valuable information.

From the original thread:

To clarify, not just YOUR instance admin gets this info. This is ANY instance admin across the Fediverse.

Yeah not a fan of that, that's not something I think people should be able to see.

People cannot, only the admins with Db permissions.

Lest we forget, most Lemmy instances are hosted by randos on the internet. It may or may not be worse than soulless Corp.

If you don't like randos hosting your instance you can always host your own. It is the main benefit of FOSS software.

Also just because you know the corp, doesn't mean you know the random IT person who actually manages the data. They're technically randos too.

You, too, can be an admin with DB permissions just by following the install instructions.

You're joking, but as someone who wanted to run my own instance, the install instructions are a hot mess! :D

Fair point. I had pretty much forgotten how bad they are.

I don't have an issue with it. It's already an anonymous platform, so why do downvotes need to anonymized from your anonymous account? If someone is very concerned about that, they could just make a separate account just to use to down vote and never comment.

If anything maybe it's unfair that server admins can see the list of who downvoted and the users can't, so maybe it should be a feature for anyone to see who downvoted.

at this point even if subscriber count can properly sync between instance I'll be a happy man
