I've just listened to these two CTI records from 1974 / 75 on vg+ vinyl copies:

Chet Baker - She Was Too Good To Me (1974) https://www.discogs.com/release/1496688-Chet-Baker-She-Was-Too-Good-To-Me

And

Jim Hall - Concierto (1975)

https://www.discogs.com/release/10142398-Jim-Hall-Concierto

They share a group of greats, including Baker, Ron Carter and Steve Gadd. Musically, I love these records. But on my setup at least, Gadd sounds like he's playing on a couple of old suitcases. The snare and bass drum are super muffled, unlike all the other instruments. The trumpet, bass, etc... sound fine.

Is this just my copies or was this how it was recorded by CTI? Really curious what's going on and I couldn't find info by searching.
