I wasn't sure where to ask so I chose here. The other day I saw a post encouraging people to spread the load on lemmy.world and jump onto other instances.

I've decided to take one for the tea and do it even though my account is like 2 weeks old ๐Ÿซก

However, how do I find physically local instances? In the post mentioned above someone gave a link that shows some sort of a map(?) where such information could be found. Could someone hook me up with it please?

or a geographic map:

You need to filter by lemmy at the top instead of all.

That geographic map view does not work well. It shows where the servers are hosted, but that doesn't need to be at all close to the actual topic of the instance. For example, midwest.social is hosted in a Frankfurt, Germany data center and is about the USA midwest region.

I also noted there doesn't seem to be a lemmy.ca hosted anywhere in Canada.

Correction: this page lists instances including the country they're in. You can sort on the Country column.

That map is really cool. Thanks for sharing that.

You can search by keywords and language. I try different variations of my region's names, smaller and larger local region names, abbreviations, and was able to find them quite easily.
