Land... and the people that live on it. Being a forced citizen of Russia is not a great outcome. Ask some folks as they leave the torture chambers. Conscription is rough, but there's a clear difference in conscription to attack and destroy a nation and its people, or defend it. It's totally reasonable for people to lose their citizenship if they want others to defend it while they hide. War sucks, but being conquered by Russia sucks more.
