Because spotify is giving out the free plan solely to be altruistic. Surely they aren't harvesting and selling your data/feeding you commercials to pay for that. No siree.

Uhh... yeah? Advertising and data selling is how everything free is paid for. No one is making you use it and im sure people aren't still that blind to the fact.

So what is greedy about someone complaining that a service they pay for (with data/ads) is offering less features without lowering the price (less adds/tracking)?

Different issue - my argument is on those expecting a free service not to sell your data you provide.
