Mabuhay at maligayang pag-alis sa Lemmy! ✈️
An abandoned community for the Philippines and all things Filipino! 🇵🇭
Started out as a Reddit alternative during the blackout from Jun 12-21, 2023 with over 1k members in just a few days. Fizzled faster than the "I Didn't Do It" kid after a month until it became the internet's Centralia in less than a year.

This month’s Ask PHlemmy: What's a now "obsolete" technology you miss?
I miss DAPs, particularly Zune. I still have mine lying around and working but support for it (e.g. music store, software) is gone now. Smartphones have third-party apps but the Zune UI is much better and a DAP just play distraction-free music.
I had this Hitachi audio player –

It was robust and light. The 🔋 life was OK. Had more than enough storage so I put my other files on it. It was an audio player and a usb drive for me. 1 downside was that it wasn't fast. There was a bit of lag when I pressed a button and the thing appeared on the screen. So I couldn't press many buttons very fast. It wouldn't keep up.
I lost it a long time ago. Idk how.
I had a Zune HD! It was perfect.
But looking at the screen today (heck, kahit nga nung 2016 lang) mapapansin mo kaagad how dated the tech is. The pixel density is so, SO bad. Pero yung UI niya with the artist background and album art pati navigation and UX, hanggang ngayon walang peer — and I've cycled through so many modern DAPs from FiiO and Astell & Kern, wala lahat sinabi. Hindi ko tuloy alam kung patented ba ni Microsoft yun or what.
I liked the metal build and the software / ui. I even had the zune pass or whatever it is called. Pero by that time, wala na yung “keep 1 song a month” stuff nila.
I also liked the custom playlists ala excel:

Grabe I missed this. Ngayon liked songs playlist lang or manual create :( Di na programatic / formulaic.
@decadentrebel @the_yaya Saves storage and battery to your main phone too!
I'd love for feature phones to support Spotify and other streaming services so we can bootleg them as a DAP.
For the mean time, I tried a Zune-like launcher for an old 13" Android but its battery life became unusable anymore °~°
Nokia, ibabalik ata nila pero iba pa rin ang orig
@the_yaya
Just saw a review of the new Nokia 3210 2024 version.
Nate-temp ako dahil parang may space invaders na game.
Actually bit the bullet today and bought a NextFun 2in1 Tablet/Laptop. Che-check ko kung kaya nya ba punan ang multimedia needs ko: occasional socmed via browser + Stardew Valley with Mods + Android Apps via Waydroid. Hoping sana na dumb phone yung next phone ko since namamatay na yung compact phone segment.
remember the days where removable batteries were a thing?
Physical media, like pictures and games that physically existed that you can hold, store, in shelves, frames, etc. I see the streaming and digital and, its nice, but it's prevalence has made it easier to make those just disappear from you, like cloud storage, and degradation of storage.
mp3 music players cause phones have taken their place
