This is the place for discussing the potential collapse of modern civilization and the environment.

Collapse, in this context, refers to the significant loss of an established level or complexity towards a much simpler state. It can occur differently within many areas, orderly or chaotically, and be willing or unwilling. It does not necessarily imply human extinction or a singular, global event. Although, the longer the duration, the more it resembles a ‘decline’ instead of collapse.

I wonder if people being forced to go back to the office has anything to do with this sudden surge, I'm noticing a lot more cars on the streets stuck in traffic than before the pandemic.

It's a combination of factors. That could be one of them. There's also the onset of an El Nino climate pattern, the reversal of the aerosol cooling effect from changes to low sulphur shipping fuels, spiking methane emissions, some effect from the water vapour injected into the stratosphere by that underwater volcano a few years back, and we seem to be speed-running past tipping points. It's a lovely potpourri of doom we have wrought.
