About a week now since I joined Lemmy. It seemed to me at first that place like this, where the tech knowledge prerequisites are a little higher than Reddit or Twitter, and being a lot of Reddit refugees, would be a bit of a liberal haven.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not against discourse, although these days that is trying at best. But, in the last few days I've been running into a lot of bullshit MAGA style nonsense on Lemmy.

And, I gotta say, that's a bit disappointing.

That kind of people just loves to annoy others. Additionally their echo chamber is just boring and always the same.

I also had some run ins with strange characters in here, but they stop engaging with you when you don't give into their nonsense and call them out. You can also report them.

Definitely no stranger to calling them out.

What are the rules like around here? I need to know how rude I'm allowed to be

Edit: you’re on lemmy.world, who is already blocking many maga instances… I would just message admins whenever you see new toxic instances and they can add them to the blocked list

Right, right. But, like, let's say, hypothetically speaking, I wanted to be rude to them. Hypothetically, how rude can you be?

I mean, don't get me wrong I would love to be vindictively rude to these guys as a sort of catharsis. But, I always wonder what good it actually does. They have a worldview in which they are the main characters and everyone is against them and their in-group. They want you to be an asshole to them because it strengthens their victimhood complexes.

I figure, in this community, as soon as a MAGAt pops their head up, it's an insta-ban. I have to deal with them in daily life enough as it is. They do set me off. Like, instant rage. Which really isn't healthy. I try to keep a handle on it and not engage.

Shouldn't be a problem here. This isn't really going to be a place for debate, or both sidesism, or anything.

Heh, you definitely will have to keep an eye on 1 or two just in this thread, lest we be bombarded with apologists and whataboutisms.
