For those who grew up without DLCs and microtransactions and games went unchanged after launch. How has the adjustment been to current day monetization and game updates? (kbin.social)

I still haven't used a DLC yet, and definitely no mjcro transactions. I always wondered how DLCs work, do they add more levels to the game and you continue your save, or is it a new story mode added to the main menu...

Generally you can think of DLC like expansions to the game, except many studios now shovel them out and they tend to be far less in depth that traditional expansion packs. And some games flat out should have had certain DLC content included with the base game but didn't

Depends on the game.
Some DLC are equivalent to the expansion packs of the 90s where they add new content, new areas, and let you continue the story.
Others are just small cosmetics, or single new classes.
