Maaaaaann.. things are getting pretty grim in the house of the Timbers. Santi has so much talent but has had a rough year and apparently having some issues with Gio.

All I hope at this point is he can go somewhere that makes him happy and that somewhere isn't another western conference team. Regardless though, this makes me very sad.

Edit: More details in this "emergency" podcast from Soccer Made in Portland (the podcast run by the author of the above article): https://www.oregonlive.com/podcasts/2023/07/soccer-made-in-portland-podcast-reaction-to-santiago-morenos-transfer-request.html

side note: this is such a bittersweet thing to make as my first Lemmy post :(

timbers fans (we/us) would lose our respective minds if that happens. the #GIOOUT crowd would grow exponentially, and i'm not in that crowd personally. if i had to choose, i think i'd choose moreno over gio at this point. something's fucky in our locker room, and gio is at the center of that.

Yeah, mostly joking. I think sounders would have to buy out Arreaga to make that happen salary cap-wise, and with Morris and Roldan coming back from the Gold Cup soon I doubt that they'd choose to spend on that position emergently.

As a sounders fan I've always kind of liked Gio. Maybe it's just because he's not Caleb Porter, who loved to play the heel. But he seems to have done well by all of you and certainly has the Sounders' number in recent rivalry matches. I don't know much about Gio, but you think that he's lost the locker room? This is more of a coach problem than a Moreno problem?

he's lost or is losing the locker room imho unfortunately
