Mabuhay at maligayang pag-alis sa Lemmy! ✈️

An abandoned community for the Philippines and all things Filipino! 🇵🇭

Started out as a Reddit alternative during the blackout from Jun 12-21, 2023 with over 1k members in just a few days. Fizzled faster than the "I Didn't Do It" kid after a month until it became the internet's Centralia in less than a year.

This month’s Ask PHlemmy: Like cigarettes, what is widely used and accepted now but wont be in 30 years?

Soft drinks? Too much sugar or chemicals to artificially make them sweet. I really like soft drinks, but they are unhealthy.

all sweetened drinks, really. our 'fruit juices' are mostly sugar. same with 'teas' and premixed coffees. it's insane.

I hope electric vehicles and renewable energy will take off and the number of gasoline vehicles will be minimized greatly.

EVs are expensive though, and the government isn't doing anything to subsidize them unlike in other countries. Their idea of incentivizing its purchase is to exempt them from odd-even which is practically just giving rich people an excuse to skirt coding and add to their 6 vehicle garage.

If Toyota or Mitsubishi will release a cheap electric vehicle here, more folks will switch to electric. Vehicle brand loyalty here is high. Many Filipinos buy Toyota or Mitsubishi.

Creating public chargers will be so pricy. It'll cost millions. Idk who'll pay for it. But if the rich folks will figure it out, I think it'll need to be staffed to prevent theft and vandalism, unlike some nations where public chargers are unstaffed. I think this expense will be passed on to electric vehicle owners.

The goal will be – There must be no low-🔋 worry when going from, say, Laguna ➡️ Baguio.

I think Big oil here won't just be idle. They may fight the electric vehicle boom to protect their ₱ cow – oil.

Same thoughts but this may not even be possible dito sa PH at least in the near future. YMMV kung EV (no pun intended).
