The guy that designedand named Odin didn't even know what The Odin Project was when he was asked about it. And the (different) guy that made the linked article and video seems to just like the language so I don't think there's any attempt to capitalize on the popularity of The Odin Project.
The community and ecosystem around Odin seems limited, but before you even get to that, the content in this article seems lacking. There's a single followup article and then that's it. I don't know if they plan to continue this series. If they don't, I don't know why they wrote it at all.
