What you're probably noticing is a result of the federation lag from lemmy.world over the last 2 weeks. Content is about 6 hours behind (but has been over a day behind at one point perhaps 10 days ago), so even though it eventually comes across, the time delay will mean they don't show in All, Hot, Active, etc, When they federate across, they will already be 6 hours old. Then the votes will also be 6 hours late.
We were almost up to date over the weekend, but the kbin issue threw us back another bunch.
We aren't the only instance affected, but those furthest from the lemmy.world server in Finland are hit worst due to a bug in lemmy. This wasn't known until recently as previously some content would be silently lost but now with the updated version of lemmy it keeps track and retries.
I am not talking about the global network. Just about the local communities. Seems like nobody here is interested in what's happening in the country.
TBH I have no idea what local news there is, that isn't political drama. Has something of note happened recently?
really?
Sure. What's the major NZ news that hasn't been discussed here and isn't political?
Why do you put the "isn't political" qualifier on it? We don't discuss politics either apparently even though there is a community called NZ politics. Hell we don't seem to discuss anything on most days as nobody puts any kind of a link here.
I mean what isn't political anyway? Are people vandalising the rainbow political? How about inflation? How about stories about climate change are they political?
Seems like politics effect every aspect of your life.
Currently we are heading towards the Budget. This means the media is and will be full of stories of things the government is considering doing, some confirmed, most are water-testing. For the most part, I don't find any of these particularly worth discussing.
You mention vandalising rainbow crossings and climate change, both are items that have had links posted and plenty of discussion under them in the last few days. Inflation isn't really a news item at the moment as it's high, doing better than expected, but there's not really anything to discuss.
You seem to feel like there's big news not being discussed, I'm interested to know what I might have missed.
That seems really odd considering these decisions are going to have a massive impact on your life for the next three years or longer.
I brought them up as examples. There are many similar things happening in the country right now.
honestly by definition you have missed everything because NOTHING IS BEING POSTED HERE OR DISCUSSED HERE.
Days go by without a single submission. Some days there is one submission. Do you really think there is there is nothing or only thing happening in this country worth discussing?
I just find your stance odd as fuck. Why even have a social media site and not want to discuss anything.
I find your stance just as weird. If you think there are things not being posted, why not post them?
I have been unwell the last couple of weeks, but all the same, there are submissions almost every day. But also yes, there are absolutely days that go by where nothing interesting happens in NZ.
Budget water testing is not decisions, though there is the occasional decision in there. I haven't seen anything that will personally affect me in any great way, though.
That was my question. Last time I posted some links people complained. That's why asked this question.
Most are by me. Also "almost every day" says a lot doesn't it. Some days there are none. Some days there are one. On the days I post there are as many as three or four! What does that say about any social media site?
it's not water testing. They are announcing their budget one piece at a time.
you don't think the cuts in the health budget will affect you?
Also it seems weird to say "I don't want to hear anything that doesn't effect me". Seems kind of self obsessed or perhaps even sociopathic.
I haven't seen that. After a cursory look, it seems your posts generated discussion about the articles.
It says that you need to reset your expectations. Lemmy has a small user base, and Lemmy.nz is even smaller. /r/newzealand has 500k subscribers, and has about 50 posts a day. !newzealand has about 1.5k subscribers, so we should expect about 1 post per week. Really we are doing pretty well.
Also, part of breaking out of the big tech internet is understanding you are allowed to look at more than one site. Don't expect lemmy to fill all your internet needs.
Honestly? No I don't, not in the next two and a half years (remembering we are already started from a healthcare system in crisis).
I am astonished that as a moderator of this web site this is good enough for you.
Again. Shocked and amazed at this attitude. You admit we have a healthcare system in crisis, you know that the government is going to make it worse by cutting the budget, they said they have to lose as much as a quarter of the personnel and you think this will have no effect on the health system and will not effect you at all and you just don't even care enough to have conversation about it.
I wouldn't say such a thing in public myself but I guess you don't feel any kind of embarrassment about doing so.
There is nothing special about being a moderator. If you have thoughts on how to encourage discussion and engagement, then feel free to put your plan into action!
I'm afraid that telling people who are enjoying a less addicted social media experience that they are not using Lemmy enough is not my idea of a good plan, but perhaps you have other ideas.
Since you don't seem to want discussion and engagement I don't think I will.
Well I didn't visit the site for three days so I am thinking this place isn't worth visiting often if at all.
