How to find moderators for a community? (self.moderators)

How do people go about finding moderators they trust for a community? I could find someone who posts a lot and then ask them in a private message, but maybe there is some other way. Do people mainly mod people they know personally? I kind of want to find someone who is in a completely different time zone so they would be awake when I am asleep.

I made a post in a community and they just... Made me a moderator. Lmao. I didn't post asking to be a mod, just...posted a post.
