I can confirm it does not work with animated gifs or large files, and you also can't link to an image -- you must use the image upload button so it's hosted on your instance. Here's an example of the code.
Hmmm interesting any idea what the file size limit is?
For lemm.ee it's 100kB but you can also link external images which I assume shouldn't have a file size limit. https://lemm.ee/post/25065
I do not. I assume it varies per instance.
