Playing through the game for the first time as an arcanist and I’ve reached level 28, though I’ve only hit level 21 on the MSQ.

I’ve constantly being level sync’d and was wondering if it might be better for me to level up another class so I’m not constantly being unable to use my skills.

On my first character, I went all the way to the end of the MSQ with only white mage. I took a long time to slowly pick up each new role and level it to max afterwards. I wouldn't worry about "wasting" the extra experience that could be given to lower level jobs. But if the playstyle of another job sounds interesting then you should go ahead and pick it up! Also arcanist is a special class because it shares levels between both a healer and caster job, the scholar and summoner respectively.

As you progress through the MSQ and level up, you will also get improvements like flying mounts, more daily roulettes that give a lot of XP, and the armory bonus which doubles experience gained on jobs that are lower than your highest level (from "battle" experience, mainly dungeon bosses). So there are definitely benefits to focusing on just your "main job" including simply getting comfortable with your buttons.

This is all fantastic info. When I looked it up earlier, it seems like flying mounts uBlock after MSQ?

And I purposefully picked arcanist because of that quirk!

In A Realm Reborn, flying for all zones unlocks immediately after the end of the 2.0 quests, so you'll have flight during all the patch quests.

In the expansions, flight is unlocked by a combination of doing certain side quests and finding a certain number of aether currents in the zone. Once you've done all of them, you get flight in that zone. Typically, the last quest you need to get flight is locked behind completing most of the story in that area.

The main downside to doing MSQ as a healer is that all of the solo content is absolutely mind numbingly boring, due to healers lack of damage buttons
