I didn't quite understand what you mean by...

"it’s compatibility with other Fediverse software is currently very limited"

I think the interaction between Lemmy and other Fediverse accounts is going quite well. Especially when posts are written from Mastodon etc. to a Lemmy community, things have improved a lot recently (e.g. when hashtags or links are in the headline)
