Anyone know if there is a modern equivalent to this? I think it would be a fun tool to teach kids (and adults alike). I know there are software simulations, but hardware seems more fun. (hackaday.com)

No, I have seen one that was modular but also missed out on a lot of what made wiring things up interesting. I could maybe see someone making one as a hobby project but I think less as a commercial product when the “real thing” is also so accessible and easy to work with, which wasn’t necessarily the case in the past. They have also gained a lot with the addition of coding to dynamically change behavior in a user-defined way.

Even looking for a crystal radio kit ends up with a lot of results that are throwing some PCB in a case, which is a shame.
