Mountain bikers attacked by cougar on trail in Washington state (www.npr.org)

A group of five cyclists were riding on a trail in Fall City, Wash., when they were attacked by at least one cougar this past weekend.

The incident occurred on Saturday around 12:30 p.m., according to the King County Sheriff's Office, in a wilderness area along Tokul Creek approximately five miles north of the city of Snoqualmie.

A 60-year-old female was hospitalized for non-life threatening injuries, but is in stable condition, according to a statement from the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW).

When this happened in 2018 the reports all noted that cougar attacks are super rare. Maybe they're going to be more common as the 'burbs continue spreading into cougar territory.

Fatal attacks by cougars on humans are highly unusual. This is only the second death in Washington in the past 94 years. However, the state Department of Fish & Wildlife says significantly more cougar attacks have been reported in western North America over the past two decades than in the 80 years before.
