Monster Hunter is pretty good at making this kind of progression feel fresh, since gear upgrades usually mean you've beaten the same boss anywhere between 3 and 50 times (mantle farming is hell), showing you visual proof that you've mastered that fight. Then you encounter the next monster and do it again. Fantastic gameplay loop.
