Sorry for the potato quality, my ill-fitting blouse, and also the weird food stain on my ill-fitting blouse πŸ˜…

So I've got what they call "hella wide hips" and also a ridiculously short waist, which is never a great combo for getting things to fit well. I'd heard tell of the mythical beast that is a curved waistband, but being relatively inexperienced at sewing I was a bit scared to give it a go until now.

Look at this! There's a full three inch difference in circumference from the top to the bottom of the band because my hips start so high up and go out basically perpendicular to my body. But it fits me so well you can barely tell my body is such a weird shape lol.

Fashion advice for short-waisted ladies is to not wear anything high-waisted like this, but of course fashion advice for wide hipped ladies is to ALWAYS wear high-waisted things like this, so I can't win and figured I might as well go with what's comfortable to wear even if it does basically come up to my boobs πŸ˜‚

It wasn't very complicated really and I know experienced sewists will be thinking "er, this is so basic". But I'm proud of myself for taking the plunge and so excited to wear this skirt (still a bit of work to do and I'm making a matching top so will post the full outfit once it's finished).

I put pockets in as well, on a pattern that didn't come with pockets. Eeeeh, look at me go! 😎

It looks awesome! And the gathering turned out perfectly!

Thank you! Yeah I'm fairly happy with the gathering in the end, definitely need to remember to put less of it around the hip region next time though but this is a holiday skirt made from a 50p bedding set so you know, very much a test piece. I have a whole list of tips to work through from the other thread so one day will be reporting in here with the world's most perfect gather! (maybe)

I wouldn't have known that was bedding.

I bought some super expensive 100% linen the other day that I fell in love with, printed with these watercolour looking flowers. When I showed my SO he said it looked like bed sheets and I was so mad at him. >.>
