Uh. Erm.
Thats...
This frankly pisses me off, /as a person who has taken firearms familiarization AND combat first aid courses/.
There are actually a ton of gun owners (I dont actually own one, never did), and firearms enthusiasts who are not completely fucking nuts, who just enjoy hunting, or going to the range on the weekend, or who have maybe a pistol or maybe a shotgun because they live in high crime areas, or who are enthusiasts of some kind of rare old kind of gun, or even people who work at gun ranges...
(Not the kinds of people that possess a fucking armory and its their entire personality)
Tons of these kinds of people, I am not going to say I agree with all their politics by any means, but tons of these kinds of gun owners I guarantee you are appalled by this.
This is frankly ludicrous.
Any one who has actually taken a firearms training course is /instilled/ with the concepts of respect for the mechanical device that is a firearm, because if it fucks up, and/or you fuck up, and dont know how to unfuck it up, you can kill or injure youself or others, that you should only wield a firearm with basically the respect a samurai treats their katana ...
I am just fucking infuriated by this.
This is fucking nonsense to not even just liberals, leftists, gun control proponents but even to an actual huge segment of people who actually have and/or know how to use firearms.
I can barely describe how astoundingly irresponsible and infuriating this is.
I'm a gun owner. I have a concealed carry permit under the current rules. I love that I had to take a class to prove that I know how to safely handle a gun and where it is legal to carry a gun. I like that when I am asked to identify myself by law enforcement that I'm required to tell them I am carrying and that I have a license that proves I went through the hoops to be able to carry that gun.
What I don't like is any idiot being able to carry and not knowing the first thing other than how to pull a trigger. I don't like a cop not having a way to verify that they know that you know what you are doing.
So, in short, I'm the gun owner you are talking about that is pissed. I have taken the course twice just to make sure I'm up to date on everything. I've seen people walk into the class as total idiots and walk out with some level of competency. I've seen people go from "well what if I think the guy in front of me is going to rob the place, can I pull my gun then?" to "I can only pull a gun to defend the life, not property, of myself or another person if they are actually threatened with lethal force. If I pull the gun on a hunch then I'm the aggressor and will get shot by someone else." Basically these classes do wonders to educate idiots and I fully support the existing requirements.
Thank you, not so much for agreeing, but for actually being able to articulate more of the details in a more collected manner.
See I posted what I wrote as an obviously angry person, overtired due to it being past 1 AM.
You know, the kind of mental state that is a terrible idea to have, and then actually mix with a loaded gun.
