"Mushoku tensei" and "Ascendance of a bookworm" are the normal kind

"Reincarnated as a sword" and "Reborn as a wending machine" are whacky but very fun to read/watch

"That Time I Was Reincarnated as the Villainess's Stat Menu"

is a different beast entirely

There’s another story where someone reincarnates as the onsen itself, but I don’t recall its name

Here you go. I haven't read it, but I remembered it from the /r/manga discussion threads about it back in the day (I think).

Agreed on Sword and Vending Machine as well. They are both way better than the premise sounds at first. Both are examples of how good characters can make even dumb premises entertaining. I love the father-daughter dynamic they have in Sword so much.

That's the one! Thank you for the link. I read it, but it's... meh. I don't mind ecchi, and my standards are a bit low, but if all that the author has to offer is ecchi, then go full hentai or go home. (Some hentai works have a better story. Like Furohile.)
