Yet another example of the people who run the system not wanting to do their jobs. It used to be that the publisher had signed up for the task of finding good authors, then had professionals on staff who would help them promote their work.

Now the roles that used to form a part of the social contract are filled by people who want to simply stand outside of it, hoover up the money and scamper away with it.
