Thumb-Key
About
Thumb-Key is a privacy-conscious smart keyboard, made specifically for your thumbs.
It features a 3x3 grid layout, as many older phones had, and uses swipes for the less common letters. Initial testing shows that you can reach ~25 words per minute after a day of use.
Instead of relying on profit-driven, privacy-offending word and sentence prediction for accuracy, as do most popular phone keyboards like Gboard and Swiftkey, Thumb-Key uses large keys with predictable positions, to prevent your eyes from hunting and pecking for letters.
As the key positions get ingrained into your muscle memory, eventually you'll be able to appromixate the fast speeds of touch-typing, your eyes never having to leave the text edit area.
This project is a follow-up to the now unmaintained (and closed-source) MessageEase Keyboard, which is its main inspiration.

@dessalines hey a few patches back it was possible when typing a signal message to swipe right on the spacebar and push enter to tab from the text box to the send button, meaning you could send a message using thumbkey. Not so in more recent patches, any idea what happened? Is this feature likely to come back? Was so helpful (i have tk set up how I used to have messagease with the keyboard taking up the entire lower half of the screen, this feature made pressing send possible one handed and I really miss it!)
Hrm... that might be a signal setting, enter to send? Otherwise it should just be a newline.
@dessalines just checked yep thats better ux for me ta
@dessalines tho I will say I'll miss being able to do newlines and bit worried I'll send by accident by hitting return... Any idea why right swipe on spacebar goes to most recent msg instead of highlighting send button like it used to? Really was the perfect solution haha
Not sure... but right swipe on spacebar could be many things, including moving characters. I'll probably change the default to "slide-swipe" in the future anyway.
