Paragons of Virtue Arrested

It's time to name and shame the self-proclaimed paragons of virtue. Keep it civil, though.

Stories are about those who have been placed in positions of trust, and then abused that trust.

Feel free to add stories of the self-righteous from other walks of life.

New rule: With regard to stories of particularly, but not only, female teachers sexually assaulting students. Any comments similar to "where were they when I was in school" will earn you the right to find another forum.

The Jewish Chabad movement, which dug tunnels in New York City which were revealed to be holding a small soiled mattress and a high chair, has a dark history of pedophilia within its executive branch.

In 1991, one of the Chabad movement’s most prominent members, Hirschel Pekkar, who created the famous Chabad Menorah, admitted to “doing things that shouldn’t be done” to a 5-year-old girl, after she accused him of child sexual abuse.

Despite the admission, Pekkar faced no legal action and no further scrutiny. The situation was kept within the Chabad movement, with a rabbinical court ordering Pekkar to be treated by an “expert counselor.”

This makes about as much sense as saying that a tunnel below a Catholic church or at a boy scout camp must be related to child trafficking because both organizations have had problems with pedophiles in their ranks.

These organizations have been accused of sweeping problems under the rug and protecting pedophiles in their ranks, not of pizzagatey trafficking cabals.

The official story is pretty nuts, though. From the Wikipedia page on that synagogue:

Since at least the 2000s, the building has been subject to a dispute between the Agudas Chasidei Chabad (the umbrella organization for the worldwide Chabad-Lubavitch movement) and the Gabbaim, who control day-to-day operations of the main synagogue and belong to a sect of Messianic Chasidim who believe that Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson, the seventh Chabad Rebbe, is still physically alive and the Jewish Messiah. Though a court ruling in 2006 decided that full ownership of 770 belongs to Agudas Chasidei Chabad, ongoing legal disputes have prevented either party from altering the structure.

Schneerson died back in 94, for what it's worth, and was the rabbi at 770. He said something about expanding the building before he died, but due to the ownership dispute that wasn't possible.

The building contains a yeshiva, basically the Jewish equivalent of a seminary. A bunch of the messianic yeshiva students decided that they could kick-start the expansion by physically tunneling it out, so then they'd just fill it with the expansion and trigger Schneerson's return and the messianic age. So unusually insane cult-y religious nonsense, but it seems more likely than "pizzagate under a synagogue"
