This is oil, but water-oil. So no white spirit or terebenthine, just water!

I have never tried oil or even gouache or acrylic, or making a "realistic" portrait before, I must say it's crazy fun!

You can go back, redo, move whole lines just by pushing the paint (I do tend to put down a ton of paint though) even days later!

Lots of work still to be done though.

That looks like a lot of fun! Really expressive eyes, and I really enjoy the intricate pattern of her fabric, too. That must've taken a while.

The pattern was actually not that complicated, I colored red and darkend and mostly just dabbed colours sort of til I felt it was okay. I didn't know how oil colors's worked at all, but just add white to lighten up, or darker colours to darken, or pose color on top of old color (or scrape it away!), repeat til satisfied. Works even the next day 😊. So very different from watercolours.

It all took some time for sure, and I still have the hair in the workings...
