Fun story about our copy of leaf green I would appreciate an explanation for. (self.pokemon)

When we were kids I was playing on my older sibling's copy of leaf green exploring the lost cave on the sevii isles and ran into a "funny bird hat" pokemon and accidentally K.O-ed it before I could catch it, with no luck in finding another one. Later through the anime I learned the pokemon was Murkrow and afterwards I looked online and found out Murkrow dose spawn in the lost cave but only in fire red. I have not seen anything similar happening online. Dose anyone know how or why this happened? Did our game forgot which version is was for that one encounter?

Good guess but I've seen enough misdreavus running in that cave to know it wasn't one. And misdreavus doesn't look like a bird.
