Discussion of climate, how it is changing, activism around that, the politics, and the energy systems change we need in order to stabilize things.

As a starting point, the burning of fossil fuels, and to a lesser extent deforestation and release of methane are responsible for the warming in recent decades: Graph of temperature as observed with significant warming, and simulated without added greenhouse gases and other anthropogentic changes, which shows no significant warming

How much each change to the atmosphere has warmed the world: IPCC AR6 Figure 2 - Thee bar charts: first chart: how much each gas has warmed the world. About 1C of total warming. Second chart: about 1.5C of total warming from well-mixed greenhouse gases, offset by 0.4C of cooling from aerosols and negligible influence from changes to solar output, volcanoes, and internal variability. Third chart: about 1.25C of warming from CO2, 0.5C from methane, and a bunch more in small quantities from other gases. About 0.5C of cooling with large error bars from SO2.

Recommended actions to cut greenhouse gas emissions in the near future:

ERCOT isn’t in the business of debasing itself to get votes or other political theater. They are tasked with the vital job of keeping Texas’ power grid running. So, when they make statements about climate change that echo the same dismissive attitude, it should grab your attention.

To be brutally honest: at this point, I just treat it as disaster porn. It’s a function of their politics, and while I realize the State Legislature has gamed the system to hell and back, at the end of the day, people are voting for Republicans in droves throughout Texas. Enjoy what you voted for, I guess. Hope the brain drain, demographic, and economic collapse don’t hit you on your way out, but they probably will.

Understandable but the point is that far right and fascist parties thrive the worse the problems become. They just blame all problems on minorities and sow hatred. As a result, all the pain and frustration from the problems get channeled into their agenda and they get more votes=more power=more money. That happens world wide.

That whole line of rhetoric is less effective when your state is the only one having catastrophic power issues, and all the other surrounding states are more or less fine.
