Now that is a substantial amount of users on here now (from a particular source that looks awfully like Lemmy but is very corporate ewww). What are some tips and tricks for using lemmy or the fediverse in general to help those new users to get accustomed to this platform?

Don't put too much effort into picking your home Instance right away. Just pick one and go. As you get more familiar with the place, then start to put some thought into which Instance you really want to be on.

One you pick your real home Instance, just start a brand new account over there and start over. You can use your original account on the whatever Instance as an alt, in case your home server goes down for maint.
