1. Follow the site-wide rules
- Instance-wide TOS: https://legal.lemmy.world/tos/
- Lemmy code of conduct: https://join-lemmy.org/docs/code_of_conduct.html
2. Be civil
- Understand the difference between a joke and an insult.
- Do not harrass or attack members of the community for any reason.
- Leave remarks of "peasantry" to the PCMR community. If you dislike an OS/service/application, attack the thing you dislike, not the individuals who use it. Some people may not have a choice.
- Bigotry will not be tolerated.
- These rules are somewhat loosened when the subject is a public figure. Still, do not attack their person or incite harrassment.
3. Post Linux-related content
- Including Unix and BSD.
- Non-Linux content is acceptable as long as it makes a reference to Linux. For example, the poorly made mockery of
sudo
in Windows. - No porn. Even if you watch it on a Linux machine.
4. No recent reposts
- Everybody uses Arch btw, can't quit Vim, and wants to interject for a moment. You can stop now.

How to use vim in 2 simple steps:
1- Pretend to use vim
2- Use nano like a normal person
ESC ESC ESC :q
Am I a bad person for using Visual Studio Code?
You are just normal and sane
I upvoted because yes, you are bad and you should feel bad.
You obviously didn't get the memo that you are supposed to only work in a text shell.
I tried nano, but none of the standard key combination would let me save or quit.
you can always edit /etc/nanorc if you don't like the stock keyboard shortcuts
Like, with vim?
No indeed they wouldn't, but it's still not as bad as vim.
That's why it's so nice that nano helpfully displays the keyboard shortcuts on the screen.
Or Micro, if you're a filthy casual like me
Jesus, how much more basic can you really get than nano?
Ed or just sed
Micro?
Who cares about labels, Micro is the bomb
Nano is life.
I know how to use Vim, but then I switched to Colemak, and now I don't know how to use Vim.
