I haven't played it yet, but from what I've watched and read, it seems like a totally different game within the same world (you can visit your old forts!). Looks almost like a single player game of D&D.
Pretty much, it's like playing an RPG in the same world where you play Fortress mode. You can make a party with any race existing in that world and just set your own goals. You're supposed to be able to go on quests or become a villain but that still needs some work.
