Thanks so much for sharing this - this was such a good, well-written read. I find personal narratives like this so useful - for me, they're a tangible reminder of the work we're needing to do, and I find them so motivating. I'm in Aotearoa, so any international travel basically necessates long haul flights, which is something I find it so hard to reconcile with my desire to travel - this has prompted some really useful reflection on my end.

Totally agreed! I'm in the US, and as the author pointed out, I desperately wish the rail infrastructure here was better. The few times I've taken Amtrak any meaningful distance the delays have been... frustrating.

Regardless, this has inspired me to consider planning out my next vacations as rail trips. It'll be an adjustment, but I'm intrigued.
