I read an interesting observation that many platforms IA-64 „killed“ (commercially), now outlives it on the kernel tree, because they have retro computing enthusiasts — whereas IA-64 has none.

From memory IA was an Intel/HPE colab and now HP had to sue Intel to agree to the original terms of the agreement on support.
