Rules
1. Content of posts
All top-level posts should be a link to a video essay that isn't hosted behind a paywall. Any topic is welcome, provided it doesn't break one of the other rules. What's a video essay? See below.
2. Title format
Each post title should include the title of the video, its creator, and its duration in the format [MM:SS] or [HH:MM:SS].
3. Be nice
Be respectful and constructive. No harassment. No grossly offensive images. No hate including expressions of racism, misogyny, transphobia, ableism, xenophobia, homophobia, etc. (although videos where these topics are merely being analyzed are okay).
4. No shitposts
Noticeably low-quality content and videos that stretch any reasonable definition of "video essay" will be removed. If you're not trying to break this rule, you probably aren't.
5. No spam
Don't post the same video multiple times in a short time frame. Don't flood the community with many videos from a single creator at once.
"Video essay"?
"Video essay" is loose genre classification for a type of video that makes an argument or critique, or explains a point of view, usually from a single creator's perspective. They can be short or long, casual or formal, modest or theatrical, and cover any topic.
Video essays are slightly different from documentaries, media reviews, and video journalism, but the lines are blurry, and videos that aren't neatly classifiable are still welcome.

Could you edit the title to include the title and duration of the video in there? Just for peoples' info when they're deciding what to watch.
This video is one of my favorites, too. Honestly I'm just a huge fan of hbomb in general.
Is that good enough, or would you prefer it in identical format to the others, with my little personalization kept to the body instead of the title? Also, perhaps we can add the preferred title format to the rules instead of the "What to Post" section, which I admit I skimmed past because I thought I already knew what video essays were. :p
Nah, they don't need to be identical format. I think the personalization is good as long as all the basic info is available.
That's a good idea for a change. I didn't want to give anyone the impression that they'd be punished for missing something in the title, but it would have better visibility inside the rules.
Oh I see. Could put it up top if you want. Then people skimming like I did won't be able to skim past it, since it's the first thing and you have to start skimming somewhere.
Moved em down into the rules. Look alright there for now?
I think ideally I'd like it if Lemmy could one day make it possible to include those guidelines on the "create a post" screen somehow.
Looks good to me. If I skimmed past that without seeing it, it'd definitely be my own damn fault, no way around it.
Posting without reading the rules is just silly. Not that people aren't gonna do it, people can be pretty silly sometimes. But at least it's clearly in there.
