Oh right I do remember reading something about this. A similar situation but it wasn't get appeal to Western audience was Metal Gear Soild 2. The whole reason Raiden was created was because Hideo Kojima conducted a survey among Japanese women. One respondent said she was tired of the main characters being "stupid old men".
