I posted something similar before, but it did not gain too much traction, possibly due to time zones.

It would be cool to see a Lemmy online pen pal/chat pal thread. Tell us about yourself and your hobbies in comments! Iโ€™m a person in their 20s who likes world football, theoretical maths and physics, and FOSS stuff. I also like the outdoors and would love to share about outdoor adventures. Feel free to send me a message if youโ€™d like to talk!

Biggest problem for me is finding other people enjoying my new hobby, at the same stage of learning, during the time period that I am into it.

I've been learning acrylic painting the last few weeks. I'd love to find a forum to discuss this while I'm still into it.

See now I just got tempted to go get acrylic paints and join you. Get thee behind me, satan

It's great! What I like about it most is that you can go a long way just by learning about paints, brushes, techniques. It's not like drawing where all your (well, my) initial attempts suck.

My biggest recommendation: get small canvases. It takes less time to paint and you can finish and get something good without too much time investment. Much more motivating than a big canvas where I get bored before finishing.

Also, check out joony art on youtube. Every video is 10 minutes. Easy paintings that look good. Great for ADHD painters.

Sorry, just realized I typed a lot to convince you to do something which might mean you'll stop your current hobby!

I'll check it out when I get home from the trip I'm on. I'll let you know how it goes!
