They only comply when asked by google/apple because otherwise they risk getting banned on their stores.

That's why they advice you to, on android, download the app via the web. Because there, these companies have no say and the content is unrestricted.

Don't think so. You can always sideload the apk from Telegram themselves unlike iOS.

I personally cant be bothered, no auto update function as seamless as Play Store.

I use neo store and it Just Works™ for me. Its one extra click when i want to install an app. The automatic updates always work. The releases usually come a few dyas later because fdroid signs the apk but other than that its perfect.

Same here, but you still need to manually sync repos and click install, right?

No i dont think i have to. For example eternity the app im using to browse lemmy just automagically updates.

I swear "problem parsing package" makes F-droid useless as an app store

Never had that issue for apps downloaded from FDroid only
